Update

So, things have been busy over the last while.  My trip to Colorado went well.  Met up with some wonderful people and had a great time.  Even when on a horseback ride through the Garden of the Gods.  It was a really nice distraction.

In November, I went to Philadelphia for a conference.  I think this is the most travelling that I've done in one year ever.  Had a great time.  Went on a carriage ride through the city and saw some amazing sights.  Too bad that I had to come back.  The weather was great.

I've just been so busy with work lately.  I'm the Acting Manager right now and there are a lot of things that are up in the air with our department.  Due to everything at work and things with my family, I haven't had any time to do any acting lately.

My step-mother passed away on August 5.  She died at home.  My father was in the hospital at the time.  When he couldn't reach her, I went over and found her in the living room.  She'd been gone for several hours by the time that I got there.  I felt really helpless, but she'd been dealing with heart disease for a long time.  She knew that her time was coming soon.

So since then my brother and I have been helping out on the farm.  Makes it really hard to do that and work and have a life all at the same time.  But, I'll be moving back into the city in the Spring.  I'm really looking forward to it.

However, I did get a small role in a play that's coming up in April at the Walterdale Playhouse in Edmonton.  It's just enough to get back into the swing of things and not over-extend myself.  There's more information about it on my website (which I haven't had much time to update either).

No rest for the wicked

Well, it's been a busy few months. Things at work have been picking up lately.

I've been busy with spring cleaning and yard work and  I haven't had time to work on the cars. I have one working vehicle right now and one that I need to get on the road. My brother and I have decided to work on it ourselves to save a little money. At least all of the work that needs to be done we can do ourselves.

I had an audition the other day for a national commercial. First audition my agent has put me up for in a year. Why have an agent if they're never going to submit you for anything? A friend of mine recommended an agent in Calgary, but with everything going on right now I won't be submitting my C.V. until the fall.

My dad had surgery and is doing well. He's a diabetic and has been having circulation problems in his right leg. They did an angioplasty to open the artery, but there was a lot of damage due to the decreased circulation. Luckily, they only had to amputate his big toe. He's recovering, but it'll take a while before he feels well enough to really use his foot.

My brother and I have been helping our dad and step-mother around the farm. Neither one of them is in great health. One of these days they're going to have to sell the farm and move into town. But they're both very stubborn.

Anyway, I won't be doing any performing until the fall with everything going on at work and home. I'll try to update with what's been happening, but it's an awful lot to write.

Just a quick note
Good morning. I hope you're doing well. This is just a quick note to let you know that a movie I was in last year is being shown at the Indie Can Film Festival in Toronto.

Always busy...
With King Lear now over it's time to find another project.

On Saturday, I was part of a play reading for Athabasca University. The readings were recorded and will be used by the drama students. We recorded 3 readings - A Doll's House, Major Barbara, and The Cherry Orchard. Once they're up and running, I'll make the links available on my site.

With my other job, I've been completing some course recertification. It means long weeks when you have to come in on your days off. I got home on Sunday and was asleep by about 6:30 pm. I was exhausted. I think I'll probably try to go to bed early today to make sure I'm rested for the week.

There are auditions this weekend for an evening of one-act plays. These plays are put on by budding new local playwrights. It's a very intriguing process to actually work with the playwright and with an untried script. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity. I'll let you know if I manage to get a part. The show dates are slated for the beginning of May.

I received an interesting e-mail the other day. I was offered a role in a horror film. The shoot was for April in Atlanta. But, it's an independent film. Not that I have anything against independent films, I just don't like the possibility of not being paid. It was one of those films were you get paid if the movie makes any money. Sometimes this is alright if you know that the movie is going to be big. But it's not very sound if you have to travel and pay for accommodation just on hope alone. It wouldn't be so bad if I was independently wealthy, but I'm not. So I had no choice but to thank then kindly for their offer and turn them down.

King Lear has come to an end.
They say all good things must come to an end. It was a great run. I know that I will see some of the cast and crew again and others I won't. And while I will miss everyone, I have many wonderful memories to take with me.

We had some decent reviews and I was asked to do a reading for Athabasca University. I will be reading excerpts from Major Barbara, A Doll's House and The Cherry Orchard. The readings will be recorded and will be available on the internet. When I have a link I will post it on my website.

So, now back to the daily grind. It will be different being back at my "real job". But, I might be able to get some more acting work in the future. I'd be happy if I could get enough work that I don't have to do anything else.

Most of the theatres in town will be holding general auditions in the next couple of months, so we'll see if that goes anywhere. In the meantime, back to the gym and my routine.

Well, another year is over! We're now back into rehearsals for King Lear and everything is going very well. We have less than a month until show time and there's alot that needs to be done.

The end of the year is fast approaching!
Hard to believe that another year has come and gone. So many things have happened over the course of the year. Most of them good.

Our break is nearly over and we start in on rehearsals January 2. We'll only have a month to get everything done, so it's going to be very busy.

This week has been very slow and next week promises to be the same. I plan on bringing my script in tomorrow so that I can go over my lines. Tomorrow is a half day for the office, but I'm here until the end of the day. I'm hoping that it'll be quiet.

The weekend promises to be fully of family and friends. Christmas Eve my brother and I are going to our sister's place. I'm working Christmas Day. Which is alright. And then Boxing Day will be spent with my parents.

I just want to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May the holidays bring you all the best.

Surreal...definitely surreal
It's an odd thing to see your face on television. You're excited, but it's still odd.

I've been on television before so this was nothing new. But I'm still taken aback when I realize, "Hey! That's me!". Maybe because I'm just not used to seeing myself on TV.

One of the movies that I was in last year was on last night. It's kind of different to know that you were there during the shoot. How long the day was. How everyone else was complaining about being tired (I was way too excited to be tired).

And to finally see myself on camera...WOW! Of course I had to record it! I know that I can buy the video, but, until I do, this will suffice.

And it was kind of neat to know that my sister and my nieces were watching. I got a call from my sister, "We saw you on TV!". Very exciting.

There's another movie airing on Sunday. Guess I'll have to warm up the VCR again!

Well, got to go again. Hope everyone's having a great winter so far. I've been pretty busy with work and rehearsals I haven't had much time for anything else.

Just whatever.

I haven't had a lot of time for updates lately. I've been pretty busy with everything (at work, at home, at the theater, etc.). But, I now have a few minutes.

So, the vocal competition didn't go as well as I'd hoped. I woke up that morning with almost no voice. And, considering that I haven't been sleeping very well lately, was a little tired. I did my best, but didn't make it past the semi-finals. However, there were 19 of us competing that night and only 2 made it. As far as I'm concerned, I did well enough to go onto the semi-finals and I'm happy with that.

Things are going extremely well with rehearsals. Although, normally I'm out of book way before the deadline (which isn't until January 2). But, I still have over a month to finish memorizing my lines.

Memorization has never been a problem for me. The first really big part that I got I had to memorize a fair amount of lines and a number of monologues.  So far, I've only ever once forgotten a line, but it wasn't an important one.

I went to a play the other night. A friend of mine works the ticket office at the Roxy theater in Edmonton and left me a ticket at the door. She was also kind enough to introduce me to a local authority on acting. He has a very extensive background in performing and instruction and is well respected across Canada and into the U.S. He gave me a few pointers, but basically said that everything I've done already was right on course with what I should be doing. It's all experience and exposure.

I started up with my piano lessons once again. I took a month off because my instructor was in Italy settling her Aunt's estate. I still haven't been able to get ahold of my vocal instructor, so I might have to find another one who can accommodate my crazy schedule. And, I really want to find an acting coach. I've taken classes, but I really want something more in depth.

And, finally, my birthday this year was a little surprising. My sister and my niece arranged for a small surprise party for me. My youngest niece and her friend put on a small play for me as well. It was really nice.

Well, take care. I'm going to be busy once again for another couple of weeks, but I'll try to update things once things calm down a little.
